the eye
(a poem for my wife)
Citizens disquieted and leaving exist Bled out into the parquet Evacuation order be damned – this is ours, they said For certain – solidity is worth this. Serenely shine on, placid hearts shimmer Ripple, silver fish kissing mosquitoes From the mirrored surface, nimbus rose, A prayerful fairy circle round us glimmers. We watch whole houses Pixelate into the sky, threshed fine Anointed with sun and silent dew Her arms cocooned in mine.
